We have arrived!
It is seven o'clock and we are just finishing apple streudal with ice cream and hot tea at a little bistro by our hotel. We arrived at Frankfurt airport after a nine hour flight from Calgary. We immediately got on the wrong train, which took us fifteen minutes out of our way. We got on the right train, got back to the airport, then headed to Meinz. Where we ran to catch our next train which took us to Bacharach. We traveled first class for the whole hour. Bacharach is along the Rhine with vineyards and castles on all sides. We arrived around 2:30 and walked to our hotel through cobblestone streets. We got the choice of two rooms: one small and warm, one large and cold. It was a big choice, but we took the big one. Barbara tried out her German. We walked to the same bistro we are at now for pizza and borscht, which was a steamy brown broth with large chunks of meat. Pizza was delish! We walked all over town for three hours looking at stunning architecture. We walked up hundreds of stairs to an amazing castle and saw 3 cats. We listened to the churches six o'clock bell of for ten minutes. 3 churches competing to see who had the biggest bells, or some form of religious ceremony. It's a beautiful town! Very cute and quaint and a stream rubs through it. We've warn ourselves out and are pretty much ready for bed. Tomorrow is another big day and we will travel up and down the Rhine stopping where we want. Goodnight all! You are missed!
